Peddling Pastry on the Channel 9 Today Show

The Channel 9 Today Show came to Castlemaine to shoot a number of live weather cross segments and Chris was lucky enough to get the call up to display our product range. So with the weather a little on the average side, not much above 2 degrees, Chris set off up the hill to the Old Castlemaine Gaol to set up a display next to a number of other tables featuring some of the region's finest produce.

Peddling Pastry was lucky to line up next to Harcourt Apples displaying their super fresh apple juice, cider and vinegar;  Growing Abundance with a display of windfall fruit and vegetables collected from around this amazingly productive region; Puds for All Seasons with their award winning puddings and us!

Chris had set up a patisserie display featuring baguettes, cibatta, Nougat Noir, cakes and biscuits however it was our delicious little Conversation Tart that stole the show with Steven Jacobs stealing a bite before unashamedly devouring the rest, a perfect breakfast we think.

You don't have to be a cycling enthusiast to realise that Chris Edwards likes bikes. The pastry chef has just opened Peddling Pastry Patisserie, a petite kitchen-door in Castlemaine, with an old bike crank arm as its door handle.

Edwards' pastries, buttery, crumbly biscuits and shortbreads have many devotees in central Victoria and his rich chocolate brownies have a cult following at the weekly Wesley Hill market.

"I wanted to do something different by opening the kitchen door," Edwards says. "I'm doing all the traditional French patisserie favourites like brioche, eclairs, conversation tarts and puffs, but also florentines, nougat and gluten free cakes."

Open Tue-Fri 8:30am-2pm; Sat 8am-1pm.

Chris Edwards is the creative force behind Peddling Pastry. Chris began his pastry career under the tuition of one of the world’s finest pastry chef’s, John Huber, at London’s Thames Valley University. After university and over the next twelve years Chris worked in some of the world’s finest pastry kitchens, from the Ritz Hotel to the Dorchester. At these establishments he refined his skills in pastry, sugar work and chocolate.

Seeking different challenges and a change of pace and lifestyle, Chris moved to Sydney and continued his passion in the pastry kitchen at the Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney preparing desserts and catering for Sydney’s more discerning food lovers and high profile international guests.

From the sophistication of the Four Seasons Chris move to the Blue Mountains as Head Pastry Chef at Lilianfels before returning to the harbour city and one Sydney’s former fine dining icons, Restaurant 41.

Throughout his extensive and brilliant professional career Chris has created delicious delicacies for the world’s most discerning diners. Now a tree change provides you with the opportunity of indulging your senses with pastry, cake, nougat and chocolates, uniquely created to indulge your individual foodie desires.
